ABOUT

About this site

Japan's Best Eats Rankings maps regional food differences across Japan using government statistics alone — no reviews, no opinions. It draws on 394 items from Japan's Statistics Bureau household survey and 1,365 regional dishes from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

The survey covers 52 cities: the capital of each of Japan's 47 prefectures, plus 5 additional designated cities. Map colors use each prefecture's capital-city value as its representative, so all 47 prefectures are compared on equal terms.
